Callum O'Dowda in action against Swansea City...

Match Report | Swansea City 2-0 Cardiff City

Match Reports
It was derby day disappointment for the Bluebirds on Sunday, October 23rd, falling to a 2-0 defeat away at Swansea City.

Mark Hudson's defensive options for this important clash were limited due to injury, with Perry Ng and Mahlon Romeo unavailable for selection. Tom Sang filled in at right-back.

The challenge of gaining a result away from home on derby day got even harder, when Callum Robinson was sent off for an incident with Ben Cabango after seven minutes.

The hosts, known for their control in possession, took over the match following this red card, and almost opened the scoring with 21 minutes gone, but Michael Obafemi fired wide one-on-one.

It felt like it would take something spectacular for the Bluebirds, with their backs against the wall, to open the scoring at the Swansea.com Stadium, but it almost happened three minutes after Obafemi's miss. The ball fell to Sang, on the edge of the box, following a counter attack, and our No.12 took aim immediately, forcing Steven Benda into a strong diving save, to tip wide. Fellow full-back Niels Nkounkou fired wide from the corner kick that followed.

The hosts broke the deadlock before the interval. Ollie Cooper's effort from 20-yards after 38 minutes hit the underside of the bar, and bounced in.

Interim boss Hudson made a half-time change. Mark Harris introduced in place of Sheyi Ojo, as City searched for an equaliser.

It was the hosts that had the first chance of the half. Obafemi's turn and shot from the edge of the box was tipped away from Ryan Allsop with 56 minutes played.

City were up against it with one-man less, but looked to threaten when opportunities came their way. Substitute Harris' header from Callum O'Dowda's cross drifted over after 63 minutes. The second goal came four minutes later, but it was another for the hosts. Obafemi breaking through, and slotting in at close range.

Despite their efforts, the Bluebirds couldn't find any way back into the match. The hosts taking all three points.
