MATT: THERE'LL BE NO PANICKING

Matt Connolly spoke to press after Tuesday night’s defeat to Gus Poyet’s Brighton, of how missed chances were the reason for City’s second home defeat of the season.

“I thought we had a lot of chances, a couple of great chances in the first half," said the defender. "In the second half we had a couple more and we are disappointed we didn’t win; but I think if we took our chances we would have won comfortably.”

And Connolly praised the Seagulls' keeper Tomasz Kusczcak for his performance in keeping a clean sheet, saying: “He made some very good saves. On another day we would have taken our chances and would have gone on to win the game. Unfortunately that didn’t happen today.

“If the strikers don’t score it is our job to keep a clean sheet but we didn't, so unfortunately we lost.”

Despite the defeat, Cardiff’s performance was not lacking, and Connolly could see the positives, especially with the second half performance.

“I thought the second half we played a lot better than we did in the first half," he continued. "We penned them in and made chances. The first half we played a bit deeper and gave them opportunities. Second half they didn’t put many passes together and we produced wave after wave of attack.”

And when asked how the defeat could affect the team, Connolly was unperturbed, adding: "There are fourteen games to go and it is in our own hands. We knew that two, three weeks ago and even at the start of the season. We win enough games we will go up and we want to win every game we play.

“I certainly won’t panic - we are still in a great position. If you offered us this position at the start of the season, or offered any team our position they would have taken it.”

“It happens to the best teams. Even Manchester United have lost games that they should have won. In football it happens. Every week a team who are favourites to win lose games.”
