GUNNARSSON BANG ON SCHEDULE

Midfielder healing well after shoulder dislocation

One of the most positive signs during the early part of Cardiff City's training camp in Lausanne has been the involvement of Aron Gunnarsson - arguably one of the Bluebirds' stand out performers on their road to promotion last May.

Gunnar dislocated his shoulder after falling awkwardly while playing for Iceland during the early part of the summer.

But the good news is that City's medical team are confident that the midfielder is ticking all the right boxes on his road to recovery.

“It is improving, but there is a long way to go,” said Gunnar, speaking to press at the Bluebirds' Swiss training base.

“I am working hard on making my shoulder stronger and more stable, but it’s not quite time for contact training yet.

“That being said, right now I am on schedule. It’s just how I react, how quickly my shoulder grows stronger and I feel confident in it.

“It happened when I fell awkwardly and the shoulder dislocated. I have fallen like that 100 times and nothing has happened. It’s just one of those things. I came back early for treatment and my aim is to be ready the West Ham match.

“The main part is to be confident my shoulder won’t dislocate again, but I will be fine in that way. I have been mentally strong since I started playing and won’t let this hold me back. The next step is to get it pain free and start to feel normal again.”

“I can’t wait to be judged as a Premier League player. It’s going to be an exciting challenge. We won’t fear it. We are all excited to be part of what is the most watched league in the world.

“I feel proud when I think of how Cardiff City achieved promotion, winning the title by a good margin. We can’t wait to be part of the biggest league in the world."
