MALKY: WE BEAT THE BEST FOR ANDREAS
Manager beaming at key summer signing
Andreas Cornelius. this week to discuss the acquisition of Denmark international, Cardiff City PlayerMalky Mackay spoke exclusively to
Andreas will link up with the Manager’s Premier League Bluebirds this coming Monday, his signing having been greeted by all quarters as an exciting indication of the Club’s top-flight intent.
“Andreas is young, dynamic, mobile and obviously a big physical presence,” said Malky. “He’s 6’4” with a nice touch and a good left foot and I think that if anyone’s looked at the goals he’s scored then it’s clear to see that he’s capable of producing from all areas of the pitch, with both feet and his head.
“He’s someone with a lot of potential. To have forced his way into the Danish national side as a centre forward, with the talent the country has at its disposal, speaks volumes. He was Player of the Season for 2012/13 at FC Copenhagen with 18 goals and they’re the best side in the country in terms of them being the current Superliga Champions.
“We just felt that Andreas was a signing we had to try and make. We fought off competition from one of Europe’s top-sides, as well as a couple of Premier League teams who came in to try and speak to him and Copenhagen in the last couple of days.”
The first-team squad return for pre-season training this Wednesday, having enjoyed a well-deserved two month break.
And Malky went on to reflect on previous summers’ activity as he discussed the prospect of further recruitment ahead of the Premier League kick-off on August 17th.
“It’s about procuring quality now,” he continued. “There was a period where we had to look at getting quantity into the building at the start of my time here, but now it’s very much about getting the right signings and the best signings. That’ll not change now.
“We’ve got a good group of boys here who are ready for the challenge of the Premier League; we just need to add a few players to add to that quality, which as we know can take time. We’re going to do our very best for the Club financially and on the pitch.
“That Sunday in May when we had our Championship celebrations will stay with me forever. Our supporters have been fantastic to my staff and me from day one and it’s important that we now stay together as one. We’re going to give the Premier League a real good go. Hopefully Cardiff City supporters will enjoy what’s to come.”
