City boss delighted with first away win of the season
They left it late, but Cardiff City were rewarded for a dominant performance against Fulham with a late goal courtesy of Jordon Mutch.
After the match, Malky Mackay was delighted that his side managed to notch their first ever away win in the Premier League and first in the top flight since 1961; a fantastic performance at Craven Cottage earning City a 2-1 win and three valuable points.
Speaking to the press following the result, Malky said: “I was delighted with the way we played today, from the first minute to the last.
“We ended up with 24 attempts on goal and away from home, I think that’s a fantastic stat. We had chances to score a few goals in the first half and were disappointed to go in at half time with the scores level.
“I’m delighted that we created a lot of chances but it was disappointing we didn’t take some of them. We got our just rewards in the end though.
“In the second half we showed great belief and kept striving for the win. We brought on three substitutes to try and win the game and one of them scored the winner.”
21-year old Mutch bagged the deciding goal which delighted the manager who rates the youngster as a promising talent.
“Jordon scored with his weaker foot which shows how talented he is,” said Malky.
“I’m delighted for him personally. He was excellent against West Ham in midweek and really ran the game. He’s someone we’ve got a lot of faith in.”
A second win of the season overall puts Cardiff up to eleventh in the table,
“We’ve showed great technical ability so far,” said Malky, “The performances we’ve put in have meant we thoroughly deserve to be in the position we’re in.
“After six games, I have a team that firmly believe they’re good enough to be playing at this level. They are a great group of players and our new guys have done very well and made the desired impact.”
