Second win in two days for City's Development squad

Goals from Anthony Bell and David Tutonda helped City to a 3-0 win over Barry Town United.

Over 1000 fans were in attendance on Tuesday evening as the growing friendship between the two sides continued, City visiting former local rivals Barry for the third consecutive pre-season with Nilton Terroso sending out a young U21 team to face the Welsh Division Three Champions. It was a second match in two days for City DVP, who defeated Reading 4-3 in a high impact encounter at the Royals training ground yesterday afternoon.

Jaye Bowen almost opened the scoring inside the first minute. The young midfielder with a low shot to Daniel Bradley’s right with the Barry keeper superbly pushing wide of goal. The hosts had a good opportunity themselves just thirty seconds later when forward James Dixon broke clear. Dixon, under pressure from the City defence, dragged his shot wide of Charlie Horton’s goal from fifteen yards.

The Bluebirds took the lead after eighteen minutes when winger Anthony Bell fired home with his right foot. The primarily left sided player showed his versatility by cutting in from the left and striking the ball with his weaker right foot with venom past Bradley to give Nilton Terroso’s side the advantage.

Captain for the evening Curtis Watkins was withdrawn after thirty minutes following a strong tackle, with Deji Oshilaja taking his place for the remainder of the match.

Terroso’s side increased their advantage on the hour mark. A fantastic corner from Jaye Bowen nodded past Bradley by one of our defensive trailists.

The young Bluebirds could have been further ahead in this match but for the continued heroic keeping of Dan Bradley between the Barry goalposts. City were given an opportunity to score a third goal when David Tutonda’s was impeded inside the home penalty area. The London-born defender stepped up to fire his penalty past Bradley to seal the win for Cardiff.
