NICHOLSON PLEASED WITH RECENT FORM

Academy coach speaks following draw with Charlton

Cardiff City Under-18s boss Kevin Nicholson declared himself pleased with their recent run of form following a hard fought draw with Charlton Athletic on Tuesday.

A second game in four days for the young Bluebirds, following an impressive 4-0 victory over league leaders Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, the result saw City extend their unbeaten league run to six and maintain their place in the top two of the PDL2 South table.

And speaking following the draw with third placed Charlton, Nicholson said: “We’re pleased with that. We’re delighted with the character the team showed and every single individual involved in the performance. It was a real test of our fighting spirit.

“If you look at the second half we probably had the best chances to win it as well. We defended to a man and to keep two clean sheets in the space of four days against two of the stronger teams in the division – we’ve got to be happy with that.”

Eight of the starting-11 that impressively saw off QPR on Saturday were involved once more for the Academy against the Addicks, with City having to put any possible fatigue aside to withstand heavy pressure from the visitors at times to claim the point.

“We were delighted with our result against QPR on Saturday and of course the performance we got as well.” said Nicholson. “To go and score four goals against the league leaders was a great showing. To come up with that kind of effort just four days later, with a lot of the same lads playing today against Charlton, says all you need to know about this group of players.

“We treat every game the same and try and deliver our best possible performance every time. We’ve had to do that in the last couple of games and we’ve stepped up to the mark in recent weeks to bring a good run of form.

“We’ll keep going from now until the end of the season and try and maintain the levels were showing at the moment and see where that takes us.”
