PROSPECT TOM HAILS CUP PROGRESS

Cardiff City Player HD spoke to young Bluebird Thomas James after Cardiff City's U21 Development side beat Bristol City 2-1 after extra time on Monday afternoon.

The result saw Kevin Nicholson’s men progress past the Robins in the Premier League Cup thanks to a 120th minute winner, as James sent in a superb cross for his central defensive partner Ashley Baker to head home.

“It wasn’t actually our best performance from the boys,” admitted the nineteen year-old defender after the final whistle. “We know that, but we all showed the character to dig in. We really didn’t want it to go to penalties - so we’re really happy.

“It is a bit of a local derby so it’s always nice to get a few good tackles in. Seeing as we don’t play Swansea at the moment, Bristol City are our closest rivals so it definitely felt like a big match.

“It was very satisfying to win it late on and play a part in the winner. I was thinking of going for goal but I think the boys would have killed me if I didn’t score – so I had to lay it off for Ash!”
