Rhianne Oakley celebrates her goal...

Adran Premier Report | Cardiff City 3-1 Cardiff Met

Women
The Adran Premier’s two Cardiff sides did battle on Sunday afternoon, with the Bluebirds coming out 3-1 victors over Cardiff Met at Cardiff International Sports Campus.

City took the lead in the first half through forward Rhianne Oakley. Iain Darbyshire’s side were showing their attacking intent from the first minute, but it took a special through ball and finish to open the scoring. Lily Billingham played in Oakley after 10 minutes, with our number seven firing low into the net, beyond former Bluebirds shot stopper Amelia Forkings.

Oakley was a danger throughout, and she doubled the advantage just before half-time. A fine team move involving Phoebie Poole and Danielle Green saw the latter freed down the left side. Her shot was saved, but it was from the resulting corner kick that the second goal came. Seren Watkins’ precise set piece was met by Oakley, heading home.

Darbyshire’s team refused to rest on their advantage and they added a third goal five minutes after the restart. Poole dropped deep and found full-back Ffion Price with a cross field pass. Price stepped forward with the ball, and waited for the opportune moment to play in Danielle Broadhurst, with City’s no.10 taking the chance early, and firing across Forkings and into the net.

Met reduced the deficit after 70 minutes from the penalty spot, with Erin Murray striking home from 12 yards.

But the Bluebirds refused any idea of a comeback, continuing to control possession and threaten their opponents while attacking. It was a dominant performance from the hosts, deservedly taking all three points from their city rivals, to go five points clear at the top of the Adran Premier table - and remaining unbeaten in competitive action this season.
