Rubin Colwill

Colwill pre-Leeds United | We're looking forward to the challenge

Interviews
Rubin Colwill spoke to the press ahead of City's Sky Bet Championship fixture against Leeds United on Saturday.

Rubin began by reflecting upon the past few weeks, with Saturday’s return to CCS being our first home match of 2024.

“It’s been a good couple of weeks for me personally,” began Rubin. “For the team as well, we’ve probably regained our form from before the Christmas period and gotten back to a position where we’re fighting for the Play-Offs. It’s nice for me to be back involved and starting games.

“As a footballer you want to be playing against the best teams, and that is one of the biggest games of the season for us, against another side fighting to be either in Play-Offs or even in the top two.

“It’s going to be a tough game, but I’m really looking forward to the challenge and I think that all of the boys are as well."

With City being held to a draw in the last minute against Leeds United in the opening match of the season, the forward now relishes the opportunity to face the Whites in front of a home crowd.

“It’s massive having the crowd being with us, and it definitely helps us on the pitch." Rubin explained. "The energy makes a big difference.

“It wasn’t just against Leeds, but against other really good sides we’ve put in top performances this season.

"That’s definitely given us confidence to go out against the better sides in the league, and it puts that idea in the back of our minds that we know we can play well against them. Hopefully it will help us in the game on Saturday.”

Concluding, Rubin shared his thoughts on the development of his younger brother, Joel, who once again represented the Bluebirds during last weekend’s Emirates FA Cup fixture at Hillsborough.

“He’s been coming into training with us and doing really well, to be fair to him," said Rubin. "And I’m not just saying that because he’s my brother!

"The boys can see how good he is and the ability that he has, and I think he’s been rewarded for that with the game time that he’s been getting, playing in the Cups and being on the bench in the league.”
