Iain Darbyshire - Head Coach of Cardiff City FC Women...

Head Coach Iain Darbyshire and goalkeeper Charlotte Hastings spoke with cardiffcityfc.co.uk ahead of the match.

“We’re looking forward to being back and playing football," Iain began. “It’s always a tough game against Cardiff Met, but we’ve prepared well. It’ll be an exciting game. Hopefully we put in a good performance and pick up the three points.

“Historically, it is between us, them and Swansea to challenge for the league. If we want to be up there and put ourselves in title contention then we have to be looking to beat Cardiff Met. We had a good few performances against them last season and we want to build on that. They do things well. They always play good football.

“We’ve got a game plan and we’re going to have to execute it well. Everyone has been itching to be back and it has been good this week. We were building momentum before the firebreak lockdown.

“It was 17+ days away, and we’re straight back in to Cardiff Met away. It’s a big ask but it is something that the players and coaching staff are excited about. We cherish the opportunity to play and look forward to the next few weeks.”

Charlotte Hastings in training...

Charlotte added: “It has been frustrating for us all over the last few weeks but you just have to go along with what has been decided by the authorities and look forward to getting back playing.

“It’ll be a big challenge against Cardiff Met. Hopefully we’ll come away with a win."

Hastings joined the Club in mid-2020 after eight years with Abergavenny.

“Cardiff City got in touch with me over the summer and asked if I wanted to play for them. It’s been good. The whole squad have welcomed me in. I wanted to try something new and get that love back for the game."
