The Bluebirds reigned victorious in the Severnside derby, as they defeated Bristol City on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Perry Ng and Rubin Colwill continued City’s unbeaten home run and ensured victory in the Severnside derby.

Erol Bulut named an unchanged matchday squad following City’s 4-0 victory away at Huddersfield in mid-week.

Josh Bowler

In a tight opening to the match, City’s first effort on target came from Ng in the 11th minute. He saw his free-kick gathered by Max O’Leary in the Bristol City goal, with the visitors proving to be difficult to break down in the early exchanges.

Following a number of corners in the first half hour, City were rewarded with the lead in the 33rd minute of proceedings, as Joe Ralls’ corner found Ng, who headed decisively into the bottom left corner to earn his third league goal of the season, and his second in as many matches.

City went in at the break one goal to the good, after a first half which lacked many chances for either team.

Manolis Siopis

Callum Robinson and Yakou Méïté combined well at the beginning of the second half, as Robinson crossed in for his forward counterpart, who saw his header comfortably held by O’Leary.

Quickly after, Jak Alnwick was called into action for the first time in the half, as Ahmed Mehmeti forced a confident save, following a shot from distance.

In the 68th minute, Josh Bowler dispossessed Jason Knight outside the eighteen-yard box, however his left-footed strike flew narrowly wide of the post.

A gritty and fighting display by Cardiff City was topped off in the 91st minute as the three points were sealed by substitute Colwill. After beating two defenders exquisitely, Rubin drove into the box and thundered his strike into the top right corner of the goal, finding his first goal of the campaign and confirming victory against the Robins.
