Match Report | Cardiff City FC Women 8-2 Port Talbot Town

Women
Cardiff City FC Women made it five consecutive wins in all competitions with an 8-2 victory over Port Talbot Town on Sunday, October 31st, 2021, at Cardiff International Sports Campus.

The Bluebirds played with a real determination from the first moment and found an opener after seven minutes. Catherine Walsh, occupying an attacking midfield role on the afternoon alongside Danielle Broadhurst, diverted the ball into the net from Ffion Price's dangerous set piece.

The chances continued to come with Phoebie Poole, Walsh and Danielle Green all having opportunities within the following moments. That second goal did come after 17 minutes as Poole continued her impressive goal scoring form with a well taken strike at the near post the double the advantage.

Full-back Price's delivery caused chaos the entire game, but rather than assisting her teammates, she got on the scoresheet with 25 minutes gone. 30-yards from goal, Price took aim and fired in an incredible effort that hit the net off the underside of the crossbar.

Within four minutes, it was four-nil. City were given another set piece opportunity when the referee saw a handball on the edge of the penalty box. Catherine Walsh stepped up this time and smashed home a low free-kick, straight into the bottom corner.

Right-back Lisa Owen was involved throughout. Playing a key part in defence, while also joining in the attack with overlapping runs and smart interchanges and she got on the scoresheet after 35 minutes. The 24-year-old played her part in the build-up before receiving the ball back from Megan Saunders and bursting into the penalty box and firing across Port Talbot 'keeper Emily Roberts and into the net.

Lisa Owen in action...

City's stunning goal tally was added to before the interval by Danielle Green. The winger added a remarkable sixth, curling into the top corner from 25-yards.

The Bluebirds prepare for action...

Iain Darbyshire made two changes at the interval with Poole and Saunders replaced by Lily Billingham and Amy Williams. Their opponents came out and showed great composure in the face of adversity, staying strong, stifling the City attack and creating opportunities on the counter attack. They pulled a goal back just after the hour mark. Kirsty O'Donnell struck an impressive effort from wide on the left, 25-yards out, that flew into the goal.

City continued to control possession, but the changes their opponents made in formation at the interval made them more difficult to break down. The hosts did add to their lead after 78 minutes though. The two half-time changes combining as Billingham supplied Williams, who finished low into the net.

A second goal of the game for Port Talbot came with five minutes remaining. Freya Davies was clinical on the counter, breaking clear before slotting beyond Zara Mujica.

The final say of the game though went the way of the impressive Bluebirds. Catherine Walsh sealing her hat-trick in the very final moment, heading in from Billignham's cross.
