Match Report: Port Talbot Town Ladies 1-2 Cardiff City FC Women

Women
Danielle Broadhurst's late winner proved the difference between the Bluebirds and Port Talbot Town as they faced off on Sunday afternoon.

Women pre-Swansea City 1

The Bluebirds went into the fixture off the back of their 3-0 victory against Cyncoed the week prior, and quickly set about trying to take an early away lead, with prolific goalscorers Murphy and Kate Jeremiah spearheading the attack.

With the early pressure yielding no results, the Bluebirds continued to press, with some good chances appearing in the closing moments of the first half.

Alana Murphy came close twice before the interval, having her shot from close range saved, and later striking the crossbar, with Jeremiah having similar efforts denied.

Goalkeeper Ceryn Chamberlain was forced to come off the pitch due to injury before the break, being replaced by Amelia Forkings between the sticks.

The second half saw more open play for City to make use of, with Murphy finding her opening goal at 65 minutes. The forward positioned herself well inside Port Talbot Town's area, striking home on the half-volley into the top right corner.

The visitors nearly took their second of the afternoon ten minutes later, as they were awarded a penalty-kick. Catherine Walsh stood up to take it, but the effort was saved well by the 'keeper.

With time running out, the hosts' first real chance of the encounter proved deadly, as Port Talbot Town equalised through Courtney Thomas.

The forward headed in on the rebound from a cross in the 86th minute, seemingly securing that the points were shared by both sides.

The Bluebirds' character shone through, however, as Danielle Broadhurst retook the lead for her side less than a minute after playing continued.

Midfielder Danielle Broadhurst's shot from distance soared into the hosts' net quickly after the break of play. With the lead regained, City defended well up until the final whistle was blown, securing their deserved three points on the road.
