Mick with Aden Flint after his two goals at CCS...

Mick post-Millwall | We dug in and got the goals

Interviews
Mick McCarthy revealed his delight to the press following the Bluebirds’ 3-1 victory over Millwall on Saturday afternoon.

Aden Flint’s brace was followed up by Sean Morrison’s first goal of the season, as the Bluebirds went four Championship games unbeaten.

“We’re certainly good at scoring from crosses that’s for sure,” began Mick following the final whistle. “They all count, but we just need to keep winning games - that’s the aim of the game.

“In the second-half we were better and again the subs made a difference. They’ve all done well and that’s really important.

“I’ve said from the start I like the squad and I’m confident in it, but it gives me more hope and pleasure when I see performances like that.”

Mick with Ryan Giles, who came off the bench to assist twice for City...

All three of City’s goals were scored by headers, both of Flint’s from Ryan Giles’ crosses and Morrison’s off the back of Marlon Pack’s long throw.

“We make sure we get good movement,” Mick continued. “There’s nothing really clever about it, we’ve got great headers of the ball and good deliveries so we put it in areas where we’re going to score from.

“Short corners look fabulous when they come off but when we’ve got those deliveries from Marlon Pack, Joe Ralls and certainly Ryan Giles, then the power in the air, why not put it there and that’s what we do.

“We got the goals, we had to dig in and that is my attitude - you try everything you can but don’t get beat! If we keep doing that we’ll be in and around that top six come the end of the season.”

Rubin Colwill in action for the Bluebirds...

The Gaffer concluded by mentioning the Academy graduates involved in the victory, saying: “Including Joe Ralls we’ve got five lads starting today who came through the Academy system: Joe, Rubin [Colwill], Joel [Bagan], Sparky [Mark Harris] and Sangy [Tom Sang]. It’s fantastic!”
