Mick pre-Millwall | It will be another battle

Interviews
Mick McCarthy held a pre-match press conference on Friday, ahead of this weekend's Sky Bet Championship home clash with Millwall.

The Bluebirds return to CCS following consecutive away matches: a 2-0 victory over Blackpool and a dramatic comeback at Peterborough United.

The Gaffer began by focusing on his squad's battling spirit, a quality they have possessed throughout his tenure.

"We were 2-0 down at Barnsley in our first game and they responded similarly on that occasion," he said. "It's a lovely quality to have, certainly in the Championship.

"Knowing that they've got that resilience, that toughness and that willingness to fight for each other and for the Club is a real benefit, certainly in this league.

"It's a tough old league and that will continue with the games we've got ahead – seven games in 21 days, with another Cup game."

Despite a highly competitive division, the Bluebirds have made an unbeaten start to their 2021/22 campaign. Mick reflected on their opening matches, as he eyed continued momentum.

"I'd like to think there's a lot more to come," he continued. "Bearing in mind we're only into the first month of the season.

"If the start is anything to go by, we've done OK. But we'll get better and better as we continue to train and play together."

With a number of tough tests lying in wait in the fixture calendar, the City boss explained why he's expecting another battle against this Saturday's opponents, Millwall.

"They were beaten in the week and will be looking to get some points," he added. "I know what it's like when you don't start well and it becomes tougher and tougher looking for your first win.

"They had a good season last year; they were pretty good. I can't remember going into a game in the Championship and it not being a scrap – it'll be a hard game, there's no doubt about it."
