Niels Nkounkou joins the Bluebirds on loan

Cardiff City FC are pleased to welcome left-back Niels Nkounkou to the Club on a season-long loan from Everton, subject to clearance.

Our 16th summer signing began his career with Olympique de Marseille in his native France, playing for their B team before signing for the Toffees in July 2020.

Having previously made appearances for Everton in the League Cup, Nkounkou made his Premier League debut against Newcastle United on his 20th birthday in November 2020.

A French international at youth level, the defender spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Belgian First Division A club Standard Liège, where he made a total of 25 appearances across all competitions.

Niels will wear the number 37 shirt for the Bluebirds!

Speaking after signing at CCS, Niels said: "It feels good; I’m very happy to come here, and ready to start. I am a left-back, I’m a good defender, and I like to play forward.

"I’ve played one game in the Premier League, and I’m ready to play in the Championship now. I’m excited, and ready for the season.

"The stadium is good, the team is good and the fans are good! I am looking forward to playing."
