U18 Match Preview | Cardiff City vs. Ipswich Town

Academy
Cardiff City's U18 side host Ipswich Town at Cardiff International Sports Campus on Saturday, October 30th, 2021, 11am KO.

It is a return to league action for the young Bluebirds, who recorded back-to-back impressive PDL Cup victories over Bristol City and Watford in recent weeks.

With Matthew Bloxham & Steve Jenkins overseeing U23 duties at this time, the U18 squad will be taken on Saturday by Dane Facey (Lead Youth Development Coach, U12-16). We caught up with Facey ahead of the clash with the Tractor Boys.

"Ipswich Town always pose a really tough fixture," Dane began. "They've always produced some really good, young players.

"This week has been a positive one for us. It's been half-term so we've been able to get the U15 & U16 players in alongside the U18s. It has been a good opportunity for us to integrate the groups.

"We're looking forward to the game. We're more than ready for it. It'll be good for our U16 & U18 sides to play really competitive fixtures this weekend. At both levels we want to play a similar brand of football, so there aren't a lot of differences for me. The players are aware of what that looks like. We've trained similarly too. We won't be asking the lads to do much different to what they have done so successfully this season. We'll approach it the way we always do. It's an opportunity for us to put in great performances throughout the weekend.

"Confidence is high within this squad at the moment. They've recorded some impressive results recently, but we're equally delighted with the way they're playing.

"It'll be a tough game, as I mention, but we want to continue this strong run."
