U21 side ahead of KO.

U21 Match Preview | Millwall vs. Cardiff City

Academy
Cardiff City's U21 side travel to face the Lions on Monday afternoon - 1:30pm KO.

The young Bluebirds' final match of 2023 will be played at the Millwall FC Training Ground against a side that are currently in third place on the PDL South table, with 25 points earned from 12 matches played.

Having only suffered one defeat so far this season, the Lions will be a strong challenge for City to face ahead of an end-of-year break, though the Bluebirds themselves are enjoying a good run of form, and are unbeaten in three matches following recent derby victories over both Bristol City and Swansea City.

Darren Purse
Ahead of Monday's clash, U21s Manager Darren Purse shared his thoughts with www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk.

"It's been a bit of a different week and we've not had a game after the South Wales derby," began Darren. "That's not been ideal, but it's been quite a good week where we've managed to work on a few things, getting some of the boys over a few little niggles that they've had.

"It's been an encouraging week, and one where at the end of it we're now looking to go and test ourselves against Millwall. They beat us 1-0 earlier on in the season, so hopefully we can go there and pull one back over them with a good performance from I'm hoping a more experienced side than we had in that first game.

"It's always going to be tough, they're usually a lot more physical and I know from their managerial team of Kevin Nugent and Paul Robinson that they were both very hard players to play against, so their team is now very similar.

"They work hard for each other and play in a similar way to the First Team, so it's a brand of football that is hard to deal with at times, but it's very effective in how they play. We'll have to match it up and learn to deal with it, but if we play like we have done at the last couple of home games then we'll have a great chance of getting a result."
