Wintle post-Derby | We keep going

Interviews
After a stellar performance in midfield in a hard-fought victory over Derby County on Tuesday evening, Ryan Wintle spoke to the press to discuss the result.

Striker Uche Ikpeazu on loan from Middlesbrough, netted a late winner, turning home from close-range to record his third goal since signing for City in January. Commenting on the impact of our No.10, Wintle was full of praise for his teammate’s performance.

“I’m really glad for Uche,” he began. "He’s been doing that week-in week-out now coming on and making a big difference for us. I’m buzzing for him and thankfully, we got the three points.

“I’ve never seen someone do the Ayatollah so much! He does it in training and everything. He’s a great lad and we’re really buzzing to have him on our side rather than against us.”

Upon full-time, boss Steve Morison’s contract extension for a further twelve months was announced, keeping him at CCS until 2023.  Wintle added: “It’s great for everyone. It’s great for me because he’s been playing me and I’m really happy with that. The results have improved so he deserves it. Hopefully, we can win a lot more games next season.

“I just think he’s given us more belief and making sure that we know that we’re good players, to get the ball down and pass it to each other, because that’s ideally how we want to play.”

After a valuable three points against Derby County, the Bluebirds are now 18th in the Championship table. Despite City sitting 16 points clear of the bottom three and looking up in the table, Wintle emphasised the squad’s desire to stay focused on recording victories.

“We’ve got a big gap now, but until we’re mathematically safe, we need to keep going. We want to win every game and hopefully, we’ll finish the season with a lot more points.”
