Wintle post-SWFC | We're starting to click

Interviews
Ryan Wintle spoke to Cardiff City TV after scoring the winning goal deep into stoppage time to seal three points against Sheffield Wednesday.

The midfielder stepped up with a 98th minute penalty, calmly slotting into the bottom corner to ensure a win over the Owls.

“We had a lot of chances to win the game before the penalty,” Ryan began. “When you get a penalty in the 97th minute, some people may be nervous, but give me the ball and I’ll put it in the net.

“We’ve got four points now and we should have seven or eight, but we can’t dwell on the past. Today, it was about coming here and winning.

“We’ve got one more game before the international break and we’ll be looking to win that as well if we want to be where we want to be challenging come the end of the season.”

After taking the lead through Iké Ugbo, the Bluebirds played with confidence and created opportunities to double the lead.

Ryan continued: “You can see that things are starting to click and we’re creating more chances. We just need that ruthlessness. We should have had three or four goals, but then they score a worldie and it’s 1-1. We just need to relax and put the ball in the net.

“Teams are giving us a lot more respect. They understand that we are a good team and they can’t come here and dominate because we’re looking to dominate them.

"I’m just glad we’ve got the win in the end and hopefully, we can have a lot more this season than we did last year.

“The fans came out in their numbers and supported us right to the last minute. Without that, maybe we wouldn’t have got over the line. We’re very thankful for them and hopefully, we can repay them with more wins.”

City’s next fixture is a Carabao Cup trip to Birmingham City on Tuesday evening, before returning to league action at Ipswich Town next Saturday.

The clash with the Tractor Boys will be the Bluebirds’ final game before the international break.

“You get a month before the break, so you can try new ideas and work on things," Ryan added. "When you come back then, you should have really gelled as a team.

“It’s not just on the pitch, but off the pitch as well. We’re looking forward to gelling even more and winning more games.”
