Each member of Cardiff City’s 2013/14 Barclays Premier League squad has pledged a day’s wage in support of Cardiff City Community & Education Foundation’s inaugural Foundation Day.

Foundation Day 2014 will coincide with Cardiff City FC’s home fixture with Crystal Palace on Saturday, 5th April, with fund-raising activities taking place throughout the day in and around Cardiff City Stadium.

In the week leading up to Foundation Day (March 31 – April 4) there will be a number of player-centric events taking place in Cardiff.

Cardiff City Community & Education Foundation is the charitable arm of Cardiff City Football Club, which on an annual basis requires in excess of £1.4 million to operate. The Foundation plays a central role in improving the lives and opportunities of people in its local communities, providing for previously under-represented groups.

Speaking on behalf of the Cardiff City squad, Team Captain and Disability Football Ambassador Steven Caulker said: “We’re very pleased to be able to play our part as a squad in donating to Foundation Day 2014. The Foundation is very pro-active and throughout the season, each of us has witnessed first-hand the hard work put in for the benefit of our local communities and the passion with which the Foundation’s staff deliver these projects. I’d encourage everyone to follow us in our support of the Foundation by donating what they can to Foundation Day 2014.”

Foundation Manager and former Cardiff City Captain, Scott Young added: “Having been with Cardiff City Football Club for over 20 years, I’ve witnessed a number of changes on and off the field. As Manager of the Foundation, I’m very proud that we as a charity have evolved alongside the Football Club and have managed to make a difference to the people of South Wales.

“The purpose of Foundation Day is to raise funds that can go a long way to supporting the work we already do and extend our reach in terms of the quality and quantity of our deliveries. I’d like to thank the Cardiff City squad for their generosity in kicking us off and I’d ask everybody to give what they can in the run up to and on Foundation Day next Saturday.”

The Foundation aims to raise an extra £480,000 per annum in order to increase its reach (currently at 75,000 people a year). The players’ wage pledge will go a significant way to reaching that target.

Donations can be made in advance of Foundation Day by texting CCFC14 followed by £5 or £10 to 70070. Media partners are asked to publicise this detail, in addition to the twitter handle #cefday14
