CARDIFF CITY v DERBY COUNTY
Venue: iPro Stadium
Date: Saturday 21st November, 3pm K.O.

Cardiff City travel to the iPro Stadium to take on fifth-placed Derby County in the Sky Bet Championship.

THE OPPOSITION

After a mixed start, Paul Clement’s Derby County have taken this season’s Championship by storm, going ten matches unbeaten until their East Midlands Derby defeat to Nottingham Forest last time out.

That run put the Rams in fifth position in the league, just four points off the summit. Chris Martin has continued his form from last season up front, netting eight goals to date in this campaign. Thomas Ince and Johnny Russell have chipped in with three apiece, while record signing Bradley Johnson has impressed in the middle of the park, alongside Jeff Hendrick.

Derby missed out on the play-offs by just one point last year. Their defensive record should stand them in good stead to go one step further this year – only Hull have conceded fewer goals so far this season.

CLUB CONNECTIONS

Cardiff City’s number seven Peter Whittingham played on loan for Derby County back in 2005, making eleven appearances for the Rams.

Whitts also played alongside current Derby ‘keeper Scott Carson for England U21s on several occasions from 2004 to 2007. See if you can spot the two players in the photo below from a match against the Netherlands at Pride Park!

Former City forwards Rob Earnshaw, Kenny Miller and Tommy Smith also turned out for the Rams, with Smith scoring twenty goals in ninety league appearances for the East Midlands side.
