Community

Cardiff City Football Club is delighted to confirm that Foundation Day 2016 will take place on Saturday, 23rd April, when Bolton Wanderers visit the Welsh Capital.

This special event, now in its third year, will take place at Cardiff City Stadium with a number of initiatives and activities taking place across the Club and local community in order to help raise funds.

Foundation Day was established in 2014, with members of the Cardiff City senior squad and management staff donating a day’s wage towards the Foundation’s cause.

The outstanding work completed by Cardiff City and Cardiff City Foundation in the South Wales community was recognised earlier this week, as it was announced that Cardiff City had been shortlisted for the Football League’s ‘Community Club of the Year’ award.

What is the Cardiff City Foundation?

The Cardiff City Foundation is the charitable arm of Cardiff City Football Club. The Foundation plays a central role in improving the lives and opportunities of people in its local communities, providing for previously under-represented groups.

During the 2014/15 Season, Cardiff City Foundation reached out to 30,854 unique participants, delivering 464 hours of coaching every single week to the local community.

With Foundation Day fast approaching, Gavin Hawkey, Foundation Director, gave his thoughts on the third annual event, saying: "The Foundation exists to change lives through education as well as sport. We are extremely proud of the impact of our work.

“Foundation Day 2016 provides a great platform for us to showcase the diverse range of programmes delivered by the Cardiff City Foundation, such as our literacy project in primary schools and our employability courses for those over the age of 55.

“I would like to thank Cardiff City FC for their continued support of Foundation Day and ongoing commitment to community development."

Cardiff City’s Executive Director & CEO Ken Choo added: “The fantastic work that Cardiff City Foundation undertakes daily epitomises the values we hold dear as a Football Club. We aim to be a provider of opportunities for all - irrespective of age, gender, ability or social background.

“The Foundation’s work has an impact on so many lives across South Wales and its staff and volunteers are driven by a desire to expand their reach and provision. I’m thrilled that the Club comes together as one to support this important day.

“With the support of our fans, we’re set for another successful Foundation Day in 2016, now in its third year. The funds raised on the day will allow our good work to continue – work that I was delighted to see the Football League recognise with our recent nomination for Community Club of the Year.”
