Adran Premier Preview | Cardiff City vs. Aberystwyth Town

Women
Cardiff City FC Women welcome Aberystwyth Town to Cardiff International Sports Campus on Sunday (16/10), 2pm KO.

Entry for this weekend’s fixture will be free of charge in a great chance to see the Bluebirds in action!

Iain Darbyshire’s side head into the contest on the back of a fantastic start to the campaign, winning their opening four league games without conceding a goal.

Last time out, City booked their place in the next round of the FAW Women’s Cup with a 5-0 win over Cascade YC Women, in which Danielle Green, Megan Saunders, Seren Watkins and Eliza Collie got on the scoresheet, the latter netting a brace.

Opponents Aberystwyth Town currently sit in seventh place in the Adran Premier, having won one and lost three of their opening four fixtures.

“We’ve had a really good start to the season,” Iain began. “We’re doing a lot of good things in matches consistently and we’re getting our returns for it, so spirits are really high, but we know that we’ve got a difficult game this weekend. They’re a good side, who are coached well, we know what they’re about, so we’re going to have to be on the top of our game to get the points.

“We’re taking things one game at a time and you can’t overlook anyone in this league. Every team can compete and take points off each other, so we can’t get ahead of ourselves. We need to treat this as seriously as possible. We know that if we play to the top of our ability, we have a good chance of getting the three points."

Defender Hannah Power, who has made a fantastic start to the season - playing a part in five clean sheets from as many fixtures - added: “It’s really important that we stay consistent and get a result this weekend to keep on form on top of the table. We know from previous years that Aberystwyth are going to be a tough team to play against. You can’t underestimate any team in this league, so it’s important that we go out there this weekend and treat it like a cup final, because every game is so important to us.

“We’re feeling really positive with the start to the season we’ve had. We just need to keep building, take each game as it comes, not get too ahead of ourselves, but also, there is a really good vibe in the camp and we want to keep our run going.”
