Neil Harris spoke following the Bluebirds’ final pre-season test with victory over Cheltenham Town at Cardiff City Stadium.
Leandro Bacuna and Aden Flint’s goals secured a friendly win, as City's momentum continued ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
“I’m really pleased with the application of the players,” began Neil. “It’s all about the minutes in the legs and then you want to build a bit of quality and structure into the team.
“There were some really good individual performances, with some players looking really sharp and creating numerous opportunities."
Following warm-up tests against Newport County and Bristol Rovers, the match was City's first 90-minute clash.
As such, it gave Harris the chance to fully prepare his men for the tests lying in wait, as he explained: "We’ve had training ground minutes elsewhere against Newport County and Bristol Rovers, but not official fixtures.
“We were prepared for our first 90 minutes against Cheltenham Town, but the previous games were lesson minutes for the group.
“We adjusted a couple of things, playing a different shape to what we normally do and it was a really controlled performance.
"I’m pleased we won the game, which isn’t usually the highlight of pre-season, but it helps us in building a winning mentality.”
