BARNSLEY REACTION | HOILETT

City winger Junior Hoilett spoke to the press after Tuesday evening's confident 3-0 win over Barnsley.

"The team dug deep tonight, Junior began. "Running the extra yard and putting the extra tackle in to help. We put in a good performance all round.

"We stuck together as a team and we took the second half performance against QPR and we brought it into today.

"You could see the intensity on and off the ball and we took our chances as well. You could see each and everyone was fighting for each other and fighting for the Club."

Junior Hoilett nets the opener against Barnsley...

Hoilett's early goal was his first of the campaign - and his 50th in British football, with 24 of the 50 coming during his time with Cardiff City.

"It’s good to get off the mark for the season," he added. "I’ve had a few chances in previous games. But it is good to get on the scoresheet, and help the team with a positive start, like it did today.

"We had a game plan to play more direct and make sure we win the second balls off the front two. We set a platform from there.

"We created chances off the movements of the two up top. It was good to have the extra striker to help us play more direct and get the ball upfront quicker, and it was effective.

"The dressing room is buzzing. We’ve been waiting a long time for that win after some tough draws and the poor result against QPR.

"To get the result, especially leading into this Friday’s fixture and the derby, is great for our confidence and great for the morale in the dressing room. It’s a big fixture for the club and for us as well and we want to get the result to help push us up the table going into the international break."
