Russell Martin

Opposition Focus | Season so far

Our opponents had both highs and lows in the month of March, starting out with a convincing 3-1 victory over Coventry City, with striker Michael Obafemi netting a brace.

However, what followed for the Swans was a heavy 5-1 defeat to league-leaders Fulham, before a narrow 1-0 loss to Blackpool.

Having bounced back with a 3-2 win at Peterborough United, Russell Martin’s side recorded a goalless draw with Birmingham City last time out.

In the former MK Dons manager’s first season at the club, the Swans are currently 16th in the Championship table, just two points above the Bluebirds.

Joël Piroe

Opposition Focus | Ones to watch

The Swans’ most important player this season has been striker Joël Piroe, who has netted 17 goals in 38 appearances, averaging a goal every 175 minutes.

Playing a part in his goal tally is Jamie Paterson, whose nine goals and seven assists have made a huge contribution.

Skipper Matt Grimes is also an important part of the Swans side, having consolidated himself as a key man in the centre of midfield since joining from Exeter City back in 2015.

Martin’s side’s defence includes Wales international Ben Cabango, who featured in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Czech Republic at CCS, in which Rubin Colwill got on the scoresheet.

Michael Chopra

Historic Meeting | Chopra wins the South Wales derby at CCS

Striker Michael Chopra put his name in lights in the meeting between the two sides at Cardiff City Stadium back in April 2010.

After Andrea Orlandi opened the scoring for the Swans, Chopra smashed home from Jay Bothroyd’s header to level the scoring on the stroke of half-time.

In added time, the striker netted an iconic goal to give the Bluebirds a dramatic derby-day win, as he clinically fired home to send 25,000 City fans into eruption.

City hadn’t tasted derby victory in nine meetings, but Chopra’s late winner saw the Bluebirds record a memorable victory and gain a valuable three points.
