Russell Martin is the man currently in charge at Swansea City...
OPPOSITION FOCUS | IN THE DUGOUT

Swansea City’s manager is former Scotland defender Russell Martin, who was appointed in August 2021, following the departure of Steve Cooper.

During his playing career, Martin made a century of league appearances for Wycombe Wanderers, as well as spending eight years at Norwich City, where he amassed 284 league outings.

Whilst at Carrow Road, the defender won League One in 2010, as well as earning promotion to the Premier League in both 2011 and 2015.

Since retiring from playing in November 2019, Martin managed Milton Keynes Dons for two years, prior to his move to the Swans.

OPPOSITION FOCUS | LAST THREE

Martin’s side head into this weekend’s derby on the back of recording six points in their last three fixtures.

The Swans overcame Sunderland with two first-half goals from Oli Cooper and Harry Darling, with winger Jack Clarke pulling a goal back for the Black Cats.

However, the following fixture saw Martin’s side fall to a heavy 4-0 loss at Burnley, with striker Joël Piroe picking up a straight red card, meaning he will miss Sunday’s South Wales derby.

In their most recent fixture in midweek, the Swans came from 2-0 behind to earn a victory over Reading, with Jay Fulton netting the winning goal.

CITY FLASHBACK | HAWORTH SEALS WIN AT THE VETCH

The Bluebirds headed to the Vetch to face the Swans in March 1997 in the 53rd edition of the South Wales derby.

City stepped up to put in a fine performance in a memorable away victory, with Simon Haworth netting the significant winner in the 18th minute.

The goal was a huge moment for the striker, netting in the South Wales derby for his hometown club.

City went on to record a seventh-place finish in the Third Division at the end of the campaign, earning a place in the play-offs.

Kenny Hibbitt’s side came up a strong Northampton Town side, who finished fourth in the table. Despite falling just short, with a 4-2 defeat on aggregate, the away win over the Swans was a huge highlight in the 1996/97 season.
