Cardiff City FC captain Sean Morrison took part in a virtual press conference ahead of the trip to Barnsley.

“I’ve played against Mick and Mick’s teams for a long time and I’ve always liked him," the City skipper said discussing new boss Mick McCarthy. "I’ve spoken to him after games and he comes across as a really nice man. Once he was in the building we had our first meeting with him and training sessions.

“You can just see how genuine of a human he is. I’m very excited to work alongside him and TC.

“We needed someone who can come in and lift the lads. A lot of the squad are playing low on confidence and someone like Mick can come in and lift spirits very quickly just through personality and aura.

“I think it is a good appointment from the Club and I think he’ll get the best of this team for the rest of the year."

The Bluebirds head to Oakwell to face a Barnsley side currently mid-table (12th ahead of Tuesday's fixtures) in the Sky Bet Championship. They also knocked league leaders Norwich City out of the Emirates FA Cup this past weekend. Morrison continued: “We’ve got a tough game ahead. Barnsley are a good side; they’re a young team with a lot of energy and who like to press.

“We’re going to have our jobs cut out for us. We’ve got to make sure we’re as prepared as we can be and hopefully go up there and come back with three points.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do in the coming months. We have to dust ourselves off and make sure the second half of the season is a better one."
