Cardiff City's U23 side fell to a 6-1 defeat against Coventry City on Tuesday afternoon, having taken the lead early on in Leckwith.

The Bluebirds went ahead in the 11th minute thanks to a terrific header from Mark Harris, but went behind by the break, conceding more goals in the second half.

Having created the first goal with a sublime left footed cross, Kieron Evans provided the hosts with the best chances of the afternoon.

Playing in a more defensive role as right wing-back, Evans was industrious alongside midfielder Sam Bowen in trying to get the ball up the pitch quickly wherever possible, leading to Harris' opener.

Equalising through a penalty-kick, the visitors took the lead minutes before the interval, as Fabio Tavares shot from close range into the back of the net.

Harrison Nee doubled the lead with 25 minutes remaining before Tavares picked up his second five minutes later.

With Harris attempting to get City back into the match throughout alongside Max Watters and Isaak Davies, the visitors' tightly packed defensive formation kept out a lot of good chances for the Bluebirds, with Daniel Martin heading just high over the bar from a well-placed cross later on.

Two further quickfire goals for Coventry put the game out of reach for City with ten minutes remaining, as Joe Newton struck home before Tavares secured his hat-trick from the afternoon's meeting. Finishing up 6-1, it proved a difficult result to accept for City, who had looked promising in attack throughout the encounter.
