Following a slow half to the match that saw few chances presented for either side, the Addicks took the lead one minute before the break. Brendan Wiredu's finish from close range came following a neat pass inside the area, putting the hosts ahead.

With play resuming after the interval, the Bluebirds struck back through Isaak Davies just before the hour mark. Netting for the third time in as many matches for the U23 side, Davies - who has made 16 appearances for the U18 side so far this season - found himself on the receiving end of Rubin Colwill's terrific through ball.

Composed in front of goal, the forward did well to shoot home to level for the visitors, having come back to equalise against the run of play.

Charlton's second goal followed minutes later, however. Hady Ghandour's strike from inside the area regained the lead for the hosts, leaving the Bluebirds to chase once again.

Trying to find another way back into the match, the visitors were unable to find an elusive second goal of their own, and with the final whislte blown, they were defeated on the road by the Addicks.
