U23 Match Report: Millwall 3-0 Cardiff City

Academy
Cardiff City's U23 side were defeated 3-0 by the Lions on Monday afternoon...

City took early control of the match but found themselves unable to break down the hosts' defence in the final third. Shamar Moore came the closest to taking a first half lead for the Bluebirds, though his shot flew just wide of the mark from a tight angle.

The hosts took the lead with less than ten minutes of the first half remaining, as Issac Olaofe headed home from Jiří Skalák's cross into City's area. City pushed back in the closing minutes of the half, but the closest chance came as Mark Harris' shot was saved by Ryan Sandford.

The visitors continued to press following the interval, as both Kieron Evans and Sion Spence had efforts denied by Sandford. However, George Alexander earned a penalty kick after being fouled inside City's, and doubled Millwall's lead in the 73rd minute.

Another goal from Alexander secured the victory for the hosts with five minutes remaining, as the forward tapped home following 'keeper Warren Burwood's parried save from Billy Mitchell's shot.

With the final whistle blown, the Bluebirds were defeated by the Lions, who themselves have now gone seven matches unbeaten in their PDl campaign.
