U23 Match Report: Swansea City 5-1 Cardiff City

Academy

Cardiff City’s U23 side were defeated by Swansea City U23 in the Professional Development League opener on Monday, September 14th.

Chanka Zimba started and marked his City debut with a goal.

The game got off to an intense start. Both sides attacked from end-to-end, but neither could get a shot on target before the first water break after 25 minutes.

Dan Williams, Kristoffer Petersen and Jordon Garrick went on to score for the hosts before the break.

Following the interval, the Bluebirds came out determined and that showed after 49 minutes. Forward Zimba’s powerful low effort from the edge of the area was kept out by Lewis Webb’s good save.

The lively striker went on to score 13 minutes later. Substitute Isaak Davies’ cross was met by the Zimba, who hit home.

Winger Davies neared his side’s second just two minutes later. The curling attempt from just outside the box travelled agonisingly astray of the left post.

However, the home team scored another two goals through Ali Al-Hamadi and Cameron Evans.

Cardiff City hunted for more goals, but couldn't find another before the game’s end.
