Players from Cardiff City’s U12-16 development centres recently undertook their first foreign visit under the Cardiff City banner to Arnhem, in the Netherlands.

Accompanied by Cardiff City Foundation coaches, the group travelled to Papendal Sports Complex – hosts of the Vitesse Arnhem First Team and Academy, located in the Dutch heartlands.

During their time in the Netherlands, the young Bluebirds hopefuls took part in Vitesse Arnhem led coaching sessions and played in competitive fixtures against local Dutch teams. They witnessed senior training sessions during the experience and on Sunday visited Vitesse’s 34,000 capacity GelreDome home to watch their hosts take on PEC Zwolle in the Dutch Eredivisie’s Europa League qualifier.

Speaking of the visit, Cardiff City Foundation’s Sport Development Manager, Daniel Smith said: "The tour was put in place to reward the players for all the hard work and effort they have put in during the season. We wanted to give them additional opportunities to play fixtures against Dutch teams, challenges they’d not faced previously.

"It’s been a very beneficial and fruitful experience for all involved, with two victories and a draw on Dutch soil a pleasing return. We’d like to thank Vitesse Arnhem for their hospitality and additional coaching during our time here."
