REPORT: ROTHERHAM 2-1 CARDIFF CITY

A late deflected goal secured a first victory of the season for Rotherham United over ten-man Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon.

The Bluebirds fell behind at the New York Stadium after 42 minutes, Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe scoring from the penalty spot after David Marshall was sent off following an altercation with Matt Derbyshire.

City weren't behind for long though, with their own spot kick opportunity coming just one minute into injury time at the end of the first half. Fabio fouled in the box by Fared Rawson with Peter Whittingham stepping up to fire Russell Slade's side level.

City defended valiantly throughout the second period despite their one-man disadvantage, but a deserved point wasn't to be as Chris Maguire's cross from the right side was diverted past Simon Moore by a combination of Emmanuel Ledesma and Matthew Connolly. The ball drifting into the net at the near post with the final touch coming off the Bluebirds defender.
