Nathaniel Mendez-Laing has been nominated for the EFL’s Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month Award.

The 25-year-old signed for the Bluebirds this summer following the expiration of his contract at Rochdale and has since made a sensational impact in the Welsh capital.

Mendez-Laing scored five goals in his first five games in the City shirt and has helped to propel the Bluebirds to the summit of the Sky Bet Championship table.

The winger has been included in the EFL’s four-man shortlist for the award, alongside Darnell Fisher (Preston North End), Billy Sharp (Sheffield United) and Martyn Waghorn (Ipswich Town).

He joins Neil Warnock in being recognised by the EFL for City’s August performances, with the Gaffer currently up for the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month Award.

“[He] began this campaign with the same exciting brand of attacking flair with which he finished last season, albeit at a new club and a division higher,” the EFL said of Mendez-Laing’s nomination. “His four goals from four starts included a stunning finish in the win over Sheffield United.”

The winner of the award will be announced on Friday, 8th September, 2017.
