Report: Llandudno Ladies 1-4 Cardiff City FC Women

Women

Cardiff City FC Women continued their strong start to the 2018/19 WPWL season with a 4-1 victory at Maes Du on Sunday, September 9th.

The first half lacked in what the second period delivered in an abundance. Both teams enjoyed their own spells of possession but witnessed few chances at either end before the break.

However, the deadlock was broken 17 minutes after the interval - and it was the Bluebirds who were celebrating. After scoring a hat-trick on the opening day, Catherine Walsh tapped home the opening goal. Montana May’s inviting free-kick was spilled by the ‘keeper before Walsh reacted well to the rebound.

The Bluebirds were now in the driving seat and their full-flowing confidence saw them double their lead, with 72 minutes played. Full-back Lisa Owen clinically dispatched the ball home to make it 2-0.

Three minutes later, Walsh notched her second of the match. The striker has now remarkably tallied five goals in just two games since re-joining the club this summer.

Against the run of play, Llandudno Ladies grabbed a late consolation goal. Kelsey Davies saw her low effort beat Wales international Claire Skinner in the Cardiff City goal, with 88 minutes gone.

With the game now in stoppage time, Alana Murphy rounded off the scoring in style for City. The 21-year-old forward unleashed a ferocious drive into the top corner of goal to conclude the play and secure a second straight victory for Joel Hutton's side.
