Kieffer Moore netted a brace, but Josh Murphy’s sixth of the season and Marlon Pack’s third drew the Bluebirds level twice.

Neil Harris named an unchanged starting line-up from both the 3-0 win at Huddersfield Town last time out, as well as last week's 1-0 victory at Luton Town.

The Latics opened the scoring after five minutes. Striker Moore flicked in from close-range off Sam Morsy’s low cross.

City responded by equalising three minutes later. From Will Vaulks’ long throw, Sean Morrison headed backwards and found winger Murphy at the back-post, who hammered home on the half-volley.

The Bluebirds hunted the lead and came close with 22 minutes played. Lee Tomlin’s curling free-kick from just outside the box travelled towards the top left corner, but David Marshall saved.

A free-kick in a similar position forced goalkeeper Marshall into a double save, 12 minutes later. Midfielder Vaulks’ low effort was parried left towards Albert Adomah, whose attempted chip was kept out.

The visiting side were awarded a penalty four minutes into first-half added time. 27-year-old Moore stepped up and finished into the net’s centre to get his brace.

After the interval, it took seven minutes for the game’s next attempt on target. Wigan’s Jamal Lowe struck into the ground at a narrow angle and the ball bounced into Alex Smithies’ arms.

Cardiff City pushed on to level again after 55 minutes through midfielder Pack. Vaulks’ corner from the left was cleared as far as City’s No. 15, who smashed in from just inside the area.

Play tightened as both teams hunted the goal to go ahead, but 29-year-old Smithies saved after 72 minutes. Kai Naismith’s shot from an acute angle was kept out by the onrushing goalkeeper.

The Bluebirds almost took advantage with 90 minutes played. Welsh international Vaulks’ long throw was headed back by skipper Morrison, but Danny Ward’s volley flew over.

Deep into added time, Cardiff City did find the net, but the goal was ruled out for a foul and that proved to be the final action, as the sides settled for a point apiece.
