Wrexham reaction | Rubin Colwill

Rubin Colwill scores his free-kick against Wrexham.
Rubin Colwill spoke with the press and media following the dramatic 1-1 draw with Wrexham.

City’s number 10 came off the substitutes bench to make a crucial impact, firing in following seven minutes of added time to secure a late point.

"It was really nice,” Rubin began. "With the fans here we knew it was going to be an unbelievable night.

"I thought it was a really good game. It was good to watch. We finished it in a positive way for us, even though I thought we played really well and could've potentially won it.

"For us, we want to focus on ourselves now. It's important that we look at where we can get better, and when we do, we'll hopefully win a lot of games.

"We've shown what we are about. It’s fine tuning that. More intensity and more detail on the passes. There's a lot of runway for us to keep getting better."

Rubin’s delightful late strike was the final moment of a pulsating opening league match of the season. Ever the humble leader, our vice-captain was quick to praise his teammates before describing that goalscoring feeling.

Colwill added: "It's hard to describe. It's really special and I'm really happy.

"The whole team worked so hard. The crowd were probably on the edge of their seats the whole game. We were pushing and closing in and getting close to that goal.

"To give everyone that moment at the end was really special. It was nice to share that."

Rubin struck a brilliant free-kick on the opening day last season as well, before adding to it against Swindon Town in the Carabao Cup. Monday night’s thunderbolt was his first dead ball goal since early last term.

"Hopefully my free-kick form doesn't dry up as early as it did last year and I can keep scoring them towards Christmas and the end of the season.

"There are so many positives we can take from the game. If we keep working hard and focussing on ourselves and what we've got to do everyday then I think we'll have a lot more good nights like this. The fans were amazing too. It was really nice and really special."
