Sustainable Travel

City supporters at Reading.
When Brian and the players talk about “unbelievable away support”, they’re not rolling out platitudes for the cameras.

THE STATS

Our away attendance last season (i.e. the total number of tickets sold to travelling Bluebirds across 23 League One games) was 39,477; to put that in context, that’s a larger figure than the likes of Aston Villa and Leeds United average for home Premier League games.

Last season, we took an average of 1,716 fans on the road with us with 2,935 being our highest away figure at Reading. Thirteen of the 23 fixtures were marked by our hosts as being away sell-outs, indicating away allocation limits had been reached and so the recorded away attendance in those fixtures was likely capacity constrained.

This season we’ve already taken 9,913 to our first six away games in the Championship.

THE MILEAGE

The total round mileage for away games last season was 8,398 miles, with the typical round trip coming in at 365 miles.

Last season, our shortest trip was to Exeter City (222 miles), with the longest being to Bradford City (464 miles). But what really stands out is that high away numbers are not limited to short journeys: you really do follow them ‘round the country!

SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL

In a nutshell, the less we pump petrol or diesel emissions into the air, the better it is for the planet.

So, the more often we use public transport (trains and buses), car share or take organised supporter coaches to home and away games, the more we’re doing to battle climate change and reduce our carbon footprint. It also reduces traffic congestion and parking pressure.

Cardiff City FC is partnered with Pledgeball, a charity committed to giving fans a voice on sustainability in sport, and specifically on measures helping to look after our local areas, green spaces, and pitches. You can find out more about the work we do with the charity, by clicking here.

For reference, the following independent providers take coaches to away fixtures, with further information thereafter highlighting those who also provide home game travel. Play your part in helping to create a sustainable future and meet fellow-minded Bluebirds to create lasting memories with!
