Match Preview: Rhyl Ladies FC vs. Cardiff City FC Women

Women

Cardiff City FC Women will journey to North Wales to play Rhyl Ladies for their fourth WPWL fixture of the season, on Sunday, September 30th – 2pm KO.

In anticipation of their away game, we talked with manager Joel Hutton and midfielder Danielle Broadhurst.

“I thought the girls were excellent throughout the game,” said Hutton of last week’s narrow defeat against reigning WPWL champions Cardiff Met Ladies. “I think we did everything right bar put the ball in the back of the net, which is ultimately what we need to do.”

City's next match will be their fourth away match in a row, playing at Rhyl’s Belle Vue Stadium. After winning two of their opening three matches of the season, Cardiff City FC Women hope to continue their good run of form.

“It’s going to be a totally different game,” continued Hutton. “It’s at their place and we’ve got to travel up there. We have to take them seriously. We’ve got to go into every game that we play this season.

“The positives from last weekend is that we can mix with the previous league champions, and hopefully if we play the way that we did against Cardiff Met last weekend then the result will swing our way.

“We try to make the atmosphere here a positive one with myself and the coaching staff. To try and run it as professionally as possible as well.

“Togetherness is a big factor, we want the girls to come here and enjoy themselves whilst also competing. We want to finish as high up on the table as possible.

“I think having happy players makes it easier on the weekend. It’ll be more of the same from us off the field but it’s down to the girls to do what they do and hopefully just keep chipping away at results for the rest of the season.”

Cardiff City FC Women midfielder Danielle Broadhurst has been with the Club since 2013, and in that time has been a part of the team’s successes, including the Welsh Premier Women's League title in the 2012/13 season.

“We started the first two games of the season and won by quite big margins, so we had some confidence going into our last game, which we lost, unfortunately.

“It was a setback, but with the performance that we had, going forward I think we can do pretty well this season.

“When I started we had a lot of good individuals, whereas now we’re more of a team. I feel that we’re working really well together."
