Adran Premier Report | Cardiff City 6-1 Barry Town United

Women
Cardiff City Women celebrated a memorable night at Cardiff City Stadium with a 6-1 win over Barry Town United.

In front of fantastic support from the Bluebirds, with 1,092 in attendance, Danielle Green, Siobhan Walsh, Seren Watkins, Molly Kehoe, Eliza Collie and Tija Richardson all got on the scoresheet.

Head coach Iain Darbyshire made two changes to the side that defeated Pontypridd United last time out, with Danielle Broadhurst and Rhianne Oakley coming into the starting XI.

City made a fast start, taking the lead inside two minutes, as Green cut inside and fired brilliantly into the net. With nine minutes on the clock, captain Walsh met a pinpoint corner from Watkins and headed home to double the advantage.

The visitors responded well and pulled a goal back in the 24th minute, with Hana Bennett finding the net from distance. Looking to restore the two-goal advantage, a fantastic run from Green on the left led to Oakley picking up the ball in a dangerous area, but the City striker was just crowded out as she lined up to shoot.

In another chance for the Bluebirds, a fine delivery from Ffion Price found striker Mackenzie Olden, who headed just wide of the post. After a competitive opening period, City went into the break with a 2-1 lead.

The Bluebirds made a brilliant start to the second half, as for a second consecutive week, midfielder Watkins netted with a fine strike from distance. Substitute Kehoe made a swift impact, as she netted from close-range in the 52nd minute to give City a three-goal advantage.

Darbyshire’s side continued to add to their lead, as striker Collie continued her goalscoring form, firing home from inside the area, after goalkeeper Erin Brennan had initially made a fine save to deny Green. City went close to netting again shortly after, as substitute Lisa Owen’s dangerous delivery into the area hit the woodwork.

In the final five minutes, summer recruit Richardson scored her first goal for the Bluebirds, heading home to cap off a fine win. City return to action next Sunday, playing away to Swansea City on November 5th, 2pm KO.
