Adran Premier Report | Cardiff City 9-0 Abergavenny Town

Women
Cardiff City Women claimed a convincing 9-0 win over Abergavenny Women in front of a record-breaking crowd of 5,175 on a fantastic evening at Cardiff City Stadium.

Phoebie Poole netted a fine hat-trick, while Rhianne Oakley and Eliza Collie scored braces, with Danielle Green and Zoe Atkins also on the scoresheet.

Head coach Iain Darbyshire named an unchanged starting XI following the Bluebirds’ 3-1 victory over Cardiff Metropolitan University.

City started brightly and were rewarded for doing so, taking the lead in the fourth minute, as Poole broke down the right and delivered for Oakley, who turned the ball home. Attacker Poole turned from provider to scorer, as the Bluebirds doubled the lead just six minutes later. A fantastic cross from wing-back Green was headed home by the Welsh youth international.

A clinical first-half performance saw City add a third in the 14th minute, as Oakley beat the offside trap and finished clinically into the bottom corner.

Poole netted her second goal of the evening six minutes later, as the City attacker cut inside from the left and fired brilliantly into the bottom corner. Just before the break, goalkeeper Ceryn Chamberlain produced a fine save, tipping former City forward Alana Murphy’s free-kick onto the bar, keeping the score at 4-0 heading into the interval.

The Bluebirds continued their fine performance in the second period, as Poole netted her third in the 55th minute, clinically converting from close-range. The City attacker, scored a hat-trick, just as she did in the Bluebirds’ 2021 outing at CCS against Briton Ferry Llansawel.

That eighth goal wasn't the end though, with fellow substitute Atkins getting on the scoresheet in added time. City's No.20 cut through the visitors’ defence and finished well, as the Bluebirds capped a historic night with a convincing victory.
