Match Report | Cardiff City Women 0-0 Aberystwyth Town

Women
Cardiff City Women were held to a goalless draw by Aberystwyth Town at Cardiff International Sports Campus.

City made three changes to the side that defeated Cardiff Metropolitan University last time out, with Ceryn Chamberlain, Hollie Smith and Catherine Walsh coming into the starting XI.

The Bluebirds started brightly and went close to taking an early lead, as Rhianne Oakley’s low cross just evaded Walsh in the box. In another chance, striker Eliza Collie raced through, only to be denied by goalkeeper Margot Farnes.

City continued to create chances, as midfielder Emma Beynon struck from the edge of the area, forcing Farnes into another save. The Seasiders goalkeeper made another fine stop to deny Collie, who beat the offside trap for a second time.

Shortly before the interval, Walsh found Danielle Green on the edge of the area, who struck just wide. Despite City applying pressure and creating opportunities in the opening period, the contest was goalless at the break.

Ffion Price in action for Cardiff City Women

The Bluebirds continued to push forward in the second half, with Walsh finding space in the box, only to have a close-range effort blocked. Striker Collie was then played in, but Farnes produced another fine save.

City went closest through Collie, as the attacker struck a brilliant effort from distance, which cannoned off the woodwork. Beynon also went close, firing just over from outside the area. Wing-back Ffion Price had an opportunity to deliver with a free-kick, which Green almost turned home at the back post.

In the final ten minutes, the Bluebirds searched for a winning goal and went close to finding it, as Collie headed just over the bar from close-range. In another chance, Price struck a free-kick just wide of the post.

In added-time, City midfielder Seren Watkins was shown a second yellow card for stopping a Seasiders counter. Despite the Bluebirds’ persistence in attack, the contest ended goalless.

City return to action next Sunday (01/10), facing The New Saints at Cardiff International Sports Campus, 2pm KO.
