Cardiff City’s U23 side comfortably defeated Millwall 3-0 in the Professional Development League at Cardiff International Sports Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

First-half strikes from Keenan Patten and Kieron Evans were followed by Ntazana Mayembe’s late goal, which secured a fourth consecutive win.

Steve Morison made five changes from last time out. George Ratcliffe, Owen Pritchard & Roland Idowu were joined in the team by a trialist defender and playmaker Lee Tomlin.

The Bluebirds got off to a speedy start, opening the scoring after 12 minutes. Midfielder Keenan Patten ferociously fired into the top corner from the edge of the area to secure his second goal in two consecutive games.

City hunted for their second and got it one minute past the half hour mark. The dangerous Kieron Evans worked the ball into space within the box, before lobbing into the back of the net.

The hosts were determined and neared a third goal with 42 minutes played. James Waite’s thunderous effort from an acute angle was tipped onto the post by Jordan Gillmore.

For the visiting side, the game got tougher three minutes into first-half added time. George Alexander was sent off and his team were reduced to ten players.

After the interval, it took three minutes for the Bluebirds to come close to another goal. Camron McWilliams broke into the box from the right flank, before his poked effort was kept out.

City maintained their attacking pressure and neared a goal again with 69 minutes played. Winger Waite’s attempted chip from just within the area was caught by goalkeeper Gillmore.

Cardiff City were rewarded for their attacking efforts with a third after 86 minutes. Substitute Ntazana Mayembe slid in to put the ball into the net from close range to secure an impressive victory.
