Emma Beynon in action for Cardiff City Women

Wrexham Reaction | Darbyshire, Beynon and Richardson

Women
After the Bluebirds' 3-0 win over Wrexham AFC Women at Cardiff City Stadium, we caught up with Iain Darbyshire, along with midfielders Emma Beynon and Tija Richardson.

City raced to a 2-0 lead thanks to a fine brace from striker Eliza Collie, before Richardson found the net in the second period.

Iain Darbyshire

Head coach Darbyshire expressed his pride following a brilliant collective performance.

"It's all positives," Iain began. "I thought we did really well throughout the 90 minutes, I thought we could have done a little bit better in possession but out of possession, we dominated the whole game. I can’t really remember a big chance they had in the game.

"We thought they would match us up in our shape and they did really well, credit to Wrexham. I just thought out of possession, we dominated every 50/50, every tackle and we showed the team spirit we’ve got at the moment. If we keep doing what were doing, take it one game at a time, we’ll have our rewards at the end of the season.

"We’re creating a lot of chances and I think sooner rather than later, there’s going to be a big score line. We’re getting there at the minute, but we’ll take a 3-0 against a good Wrexham team all day."

Midfielder Beynon reflected on playing at Cardiff City Stadium for the Bluebirds for the first time, stating: “I thought we played well, we could have been better in possession but to be winning 3-0 against Wrexham it’s a good result for us. It’s a slippy pitch obviously because of the weather but I thought we created enough chances to win the game and we did.

“It was really good, I loved being in blue today and all the fans shouting for us was a good boost. They’re obviously a good team, we knew what they’re about. The way they have come up from last season in the league, they have done really well, but we were just the better team on the day."

Tija Richardson in action for Cardiff City Women

After netting at Cardiff City Stadium for the second time this season, Richardson added: "It’s an amazing occasion again, it's always really good to play at CCS. I couldn’t wait to come on to be honest, I seen we had a few chances in the first half where the ball kept going into the box and I was just thinking in my head, I’m sure I could’ve got on the end of a few of them.

“When I knew Mikayla had it, I thought she'd put it in the box and I’ll do my best to get on the end of it and that’s what I did, it was a special moment again for me. The fans are amazing here, you can hear them even when you’re on the bench, you can hear them shouting along and every pass and shot we take, we can hear them screaming and shouting, it’s just amazing to have them here.”

“These big occasions are the ones you want to play in, so every opportunity you get to play here, we can’t wait.”
